摘要(Abstract)：

民初官方的“通俗教育”政策，对当时的小说生态产生了显著影响，这在历史小说创作领域得到了充分反映。一些小说家通过编撰卷帙浩繁的历史小说，以期为“通俗教育之一助”。这些小说家“为通俗教育起见”,在叙事中力避“荒诞邪僻”;在文化小说观支配下，他们还表现出崇实黜虚的叙事倾向。他们意欲“借说部之体裁，写当代之状况”,在小说中或“为一般国民输进普通法律知识”,或批评诸如缠足、吸食鸦片等社会痼弊，或借小说实施政治启蒙，从而赋予其作品以鲜明的时代性。民初历史小说家片面强调小说的通俗教育功能，处处依傍正史，并在强烈的读者意识支配下建构小说文本形态，由此导致其小说明显缺乏艺术“兴味”。只有将民初历史小说作为“通俗教育”这一特定文化政策之产物加以观照，才能准确把握其创作特征。
